Zanshin Kai is a Shotokan Karate club offering Karate classes to all ages.  The club is based in the Kirkintilloch Leisure Centre, Bishopbriggs Leisuredrome and Lenzie Public Hall in East Dunbartonshire & Glasgow in Central Scotland.  Kenny  Davis 7th Dan is our Head Instructor and he has been running the club for around 30 years.

We are affiliated with the Japan Shotokan Karate International, Traditional Karate Great Britain (TKGB), SOAS Jindokai and the Scottish Karate Alliance.  Kenny is also a fellow of the International Shotokan-ryu Karate -do Shihankai.

Our club have students who also cross train in other martial arts such as Tai Chi, Muay Thai, Western Kick boxing, Tae Kwon Do, Aikido, BJJ, and others.  We also dabble in weapons training from time to time specifically with Iaido, Bo and Kama.

All of our instructors have Enhanced Disclosure through Disclosure Scotland, and we adhere to the following TKGB Child Protection Policy 2010.  Our Syllabus roughly translates into three main areas:

  • Self defence: Learning and practicing applications from the 27 shotokan katas including delivering high impact strikes, stand up grappling, close range strikes, throws & takedowns, chokes & strangles, arm locks and wrist locks against aggressive untrained individuals and groups.
  • Sport: For the more athletic among us to enter and compete in competitions at local, national and international arenas, specifically against other martial artists in a controlled environment with rules, referees, gumshield/mitts and first aiders.
  • As a way of life: Improving health through exercise, studying the oriental martial ways and reinforcing confidence levels to deal with stressful situations outside the Dojo.
